In a true showing of bi-partisan unity, Rep. Paul DeMarco (R-Homewood) announced at yesterday’s (2.3.09) Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce Legislative Luncheon that the entire Jefferson County House delegation has agreed to sponsor his professional county manager bill—all but ensuring its passage in the Alabama House. State Senator Jabo Waggoner also introduced a companion bill in the Senate. The Chamber unveiled its state agenda during the luncheon with the county manager bill as the top priority for 2009
These latest developments give the county manager bill tremendous momentum at the start of the 2009 regular session of the Legislature. Please take the time to thank your Jefferson County House members for their support of the county manager bill. Be sure to contact your state senator as well and ask them to support Sen. Waggoner’s bill. Contact information for your state legislators can be found at www.legislature.state.al.us/.

This is the best news I’ve heard for our county in the last – well. I guess it is the best news since before the county started talking about sewer bonds. Congrats to the entire delegation for exercising common sense.
